Ice islands are simply large, tabular icebergs. My graduate research at Carleton University focused on the deterioration of ice islands from the Petermann Glacier of NW Greenland and how to detect that deterioration. I was fortunate to repeatedly visit my drifting, ephemeral study sites, mostly via the CCGS Amundsen. Land-based trips were conducted from Sachs Harbour, NWT and Qikiqtarjuaq, NU.
